1) Bigger than life florals. Some things never change: couples love flowers. And, as a venue, we do too! It doesn’t get more exciting or beautiful than a unique, custom-made floral installation at your wedding. Guests are often excited to see the way the couple translates their relationship into a statement piece or detail fitting their personality.

You’ve got the fiancé. You’ve got the ring. You know your wedding style and the season you want to get married in. You’ve even outlined your wedding budget. Now, what’s next? Typically, the next most pressing decision to make is the date and location of your wedding. This is where it gets really exciting and starts to feel real! Your wedding venue can be one of the biggest decisions you’ll make because it’s the place you’ll spend your big day with all your favorite people and your future spouse. The right venue can go a long way in setting the right mood for your big day.
Because the right venue can really make your wedding, our general advice is to not rush this decision. Take it slow. Do your research of venues in your area (or your dream area, if you’re planning to have a destination wedding). Take tours of venues you’re interested in. You definitely need to see the venue in person to really get a feel for the space and how it could all be set up.
When it comes to your wedding date and venue, these two decisions can go hand-in-hand. If you’re limited to a certain date because of other obligations or commitments, then your date could be the deciding factor for your venue. If you can only find a couple venues in your area available on your ideal date, you may have automatically narrowed down your choices. Similarly, if you have a dream wedding venue already selected, you may have to choose whatever date is available in order to have your wedding there. Narrowing down your date and/or venue like this is totally okay and may even make the decision-making easier for you!
If you aren’t limited by a specific date or you don’t have a certain venue in mind, take your time looking at venues in your area. Make sure to keep your wedding style in mind when considering a venue. If your dream wedding style is rustic, you will want to cross modern, sleek venues off your list. Goodwin Manor in Little Rock is a gorgeous wedding venue featuring sweeping views of Arkansas mountains, an elegant stone Manor, and a beautiful, glamorous interior. If your wedding style is classic, romantic, and elegant, Goodwin Manor could be your dream venue. Contact us today to schedule a tour of Goodwin Manor - we’d love to show you the space! We were also named Best Wedding Venue in Arkansas Life this year!
When you take a tour of your potential venue, be sure to ask plenty of questions. For example, ask if you can have both your ceremony and reception there and, if not, consider the distance between each venue. Ask how many people the space can accommodate and what the rain plan is. Ask what other services they offer, if they have any restrictions, and about the deposit/cancellation policy. Look at reviews that previous couples write about their wedding venue - this can be very telling, too.
Finding your dream wedding venue is easily one of the best parts of planning your wedding. Once you know where you’ll say your vows and celebrate your marriage, you’ll get to plan all the fun that takes place that day! At Goodwin Manor in Little Rock, we love seeing our brides and grooms bring their wedding dreams to life. Contact us to schedule a tour or learn more about our classic, romantic wedding venue. To all our couples looking for their future venue, congratulations and good luck!

During our Wedding Planning 101 blogging series, we’ve detailed our best tips for starting the wedding planning process. Perhaps one of the most important early steps you can take in your wedding planning journey is creating a wedding budget. Everything else you consider for your big day should ultimately be run by the budget you’ve identified early on. We know...this isn’t the fun part. But trust us, it’s the #1 thing that will bring you peace of mind later in the process.
First, determine who will be funding your big day. Traditionally, the bride’s family pays for the wedding. But more and more, this tradition is changing. Today, we see a wide mix of people who pay for the wedding. Sometimes, the bride and groom pay for the entire event. Sometimes, the bride and groom help out with a few categories of the big day and the parents pay for the rest. There isn’t a right or wrong answer here. The best solution is what works best for your particular situation and what you’re most comfortable with.
After you’ve established the main contributors to your wedding budget, sit down with the paying parties and discuss the budget. You can select an overall ideal budget and then brainstorm how to break it down item-by-item. If you create an account on Wedding Wire, they have a useful budget tool that we’d recommend using. You can enter your total budget and they’ll provide a handy spreadsheet with your budget broken down into the different categories you’ll need to consider.
When creating a budget, it’s important to be thorough. It’s easy to only think about the biggest wedding budget categories and feel like you have a general number of how much it will cost. But in reality, the small items you forget to consider can really add up. For example, you’ll remember to calculate the cost of the venue, dress, and photographer. But did you forget to add in the cost of bridesmaid gifts and corsages for you and your significant other’s grandmothers? Food is usually the biggest budget item for weddings but don’t forget to budget for the cake or other desserts. Don’t let small costs add up and surprise you in the end.
Though budgeting isn’t the most fun or glamorous part of wedding planning, it’s one of the most important. If you’re like most brides, it’s important to stick to your budget. Make it easier on yourself down the road by establishing a clear budget early on in the planning process and paying attention to it. If you hire a wedding planner, part of their job can be to help you stick to your budget. Our team here at Goodwin Manor would love to discuss your big day with you. Getting engaged can be one of the happiest times in your life. It can also be stressful once you realize you have a lot of decisions to make in order to bring your big day to life. At Goodwin Manor in Little Rock, Arkansas, we believe your engagement should be the happiest time of your life. No one should feel stressed about their wedding and we hope to be a venue that helps our couples stay calm and stress-free. In our latest blog series about wedding decisions, we’re going through choices brides- and/or grooms-to-be can expect to make leading up to the wedding day and where to start when it comes to making decisions. We recommended starting with selecting your wedding style. Now, let's move on to choosing a wedding season!
In order to select a wedding season, the real question to ask yourself first is: “Where will we get married?” The seasons vary widely from place to place. If you know the city you'll say “I Do” in, that will help you decide on a season that's best in that place. A plus of having your wedding in or near the city in which you live is that you know what each season is like there. But if you're considering a destination wedding in another state or country, do your research on the typical weather and climate in that area before booking a venue.
Some brides were born knowing the season in which they wanted to get married. Some just knew they were a spring bride or knew they dreamed of a fall wedding. If you're like these brides and you just know, go with your gut. Don't second guess something that came to you so easily. A lot of wedding decisions won't be that easy so take advantage of it. It’s great to have a decision you don’t have to mull over. If you have a favorite time of year or want the chance of snow on your wedding day, go with it! Just know that Mother Nature is unpredictable, no matter the season.
If you weren't born with a must-have wedding season, ask yourself some questions to help determine the best wedding season for you:
Overall, when you’re choosing a wedding season, keep this one rule in mind: Do what you want. Don’t force yourself to have your wedding in a season that doesn’t fit your vision or personality just because it’s cheaper. Weigh your options and how much you care about the season, and go from there. Goodwin Manor in Little Rock is a beautiful, elegant wedding venue that looks beautiful in every Arkansas season. If you’re reading this, you’re likely engaged...Congratulations! At Goodwin Manor in Little Rock, Arkansas, we want your engagement to be the happiest season of your life. In the meantime, when it comes to planning, we recommend you begin with selecting your wedding style.
If you’re like me, you didn’t know choosing a wedding style was even part of the process. What is a wedding style? Your wedding style describes the overall look and feel of your wedding. It can also be defined as your “vision” for what your big day looks and feels like. Unlike a wedding theme, which can be very specific (i.e., a country wedding, a travel-themed wedding, etc.), your wedding style is often summed up using an adjective. Examples include:
When you’re considering your wedding style, try not to think about what you’ve seen on Instagram or Pinterest. Instead, think about the style and vibe that you’re naturally attracted to. For example, when you think about having your first dance with your fiancé, where do you envision it taking place? In a ballroom? Outside with a scenic mountain view? On a rooftop downtown? Picture your big day and where you’d see yourself saying your vows. What do you envision when you think about your guests dining? Think about the styles listed above in relation to all these categories: venue, food, dress, reception, farewell. These small details will help you narrow down your wedding style.
Still can’t figure out your wedding style? Try taking these quizzes to get you started in the right direction:
Most importantly, when you’re selecting a wedding style, remember to stay true to yourself. Years from now, when you look back on your wedding, you won’t remember which Pinterest pin you perfectly pulled off. You’ll remember the feeling you got when you saw your future-husband and everyone you love in the perfect place surrounded with details from the wedding style that’s true to you and your fiancé’s personality.
